Den / Shiosai

This ‘Den’ Hiroshima lacquerware overturns the conventional wisdom of the art.
It is made of cloth overlaid with lacquer glue, as wood cannot be shaped into a smooth,
streamlined spout. The gradation of the black and blue finish reminds us of the beautiful Seto Inland Sea,
which is why it is called 'Shiosai - Tidal Wave.’ The shuki-style ewer was inspired by the image of a dove, a symbol of peace.

木を使用せず、布を漆糊で張り重ねたものを素地にしました。
平和の象徴である、「鳩」をイメージした酒器。「伝」と名づけました。
注ぎ口は、木を使った漆器では決して表現できない、滑らかな流線形を描きます。
漆器の常識を覆した漆器であり、「広島漆芸」と呼ばれる所以です。
黒と青のグラデーションで、平穏で豊かな、美しい瀬戸内海を表現し、「潮騒」としました。

What is a suitable gift from the Mayor of the Peace Memorial City of Hiroshima to the Leaders of States and Governments?
My answer is the dove, a symbol of peace.
The black and blue colouring on the sake cup represents the Seto Inland Sea.
The lacquer dries over a period of 50 years, gradually increasing the transparency of the "Dove's Seto Inland Sea." The "Den / Shiosai" lives.

平和記念都市「広島」の市長から、各国首脳への贈呈品に相応しいものとは何か。
私の答えは、平和の象徴である「鳩」でした。
鳩をイメージした酒器本体には、黒と青の裾濃で、瀬戸内海を表現しました。
漆はおよそ50年という年月をかけて乾燥していきます。
しだいに「鳩の瀬戸内海」は、透明感が増すでしょう。
「伝／潮騒」は、生きています。
